SSC CHSL - 6 Aug 2021 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q53

In a triangle ABC, right-angled at B, if secA = 13/5, then find the value of (1 + sinA)/(cosC).

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 25/12.

Here,

sec A = 13/5 = H/B

⇒ AC/AB = 13/5

So, let AC = 13k and AB = 5k, considering k as their common ratio.

So, BC = (13k)2−(5k)2=12k{ \sqrt{(13k)^2 - (5k)^2} } = 12k

Now,

sin A = AB/AC = 12/13

cos C = BC/AC = 12/13

So,

1+sin⁡Acos⁡B\frac{1+ \sin A}{\cos B}  = (1 + 12/13)/(12/13) = 25/12
