Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 1000.

Understanding/Application

Let the total students be 100x.

Students who appeared in exam = 100x - 4x = 96x

Students who get passed in the exam = 90% of 96x = 96x × 90/100 = 86.4x

Students who passed with distinction = 50% of 86.4x

Students who passed without distinction = 432

50% of 86.4x = 432

86.4x × 50/100 = 432

86.4x = 864

x = 10

Thus, the total students = 100x = 100(10) = 1000
