In a mixture, milk and water are in ratio of 7 : 9. Some milk is added to the mixture because of which ratio of milk and water becomes 11 : 9. How much milk was added as a percentage of initial mixture?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 25%.

Given that, initial ratio of milk and water = 7 : 9

Final ratio of milk and water = 11 : 9

Let the amount of milk added to the mixture be x.

According to the given question,

7+x9=119{ {7 + x} \over 9} = {11 \over 9}

⇒ 7 + x = 11

⇒ x = 4

Total initial mixture = 7 + 9 = 16

Percentage of milk added = 416×100{4 \over 16} \times 100 = 25%

Hence the required answer is 25%.
