If (x2+1x2)=6\left(x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}\right)=6, and 0 < x < 1, what is the value of x4−1x4?x^4 - \frac{1}{x^4}?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 24224\sqrt{2}.

Given that, (x2+1x2)=6\left(x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}\right)=6

Squarying the given equation,

⇒ (x2+1x2)2(x^2 + {1\over x^2})^2 = 36

⇒ x4+1x4+2x^4 + {1\over x^4} + 2 = 36

⇒ x4+1x4x^4 + {1\over x^4}  = 34

Again squarying both sides of the equation,

⇒ (x4+1x4)2(x^4 + {1\over x^4})^2 = 1156

⇒ x8+1x8+2x^8 + {1 \over x^8} + 2 = 1156

⇒ x8+1x8x^8 + { 1\over x^8} = 1154

Subtracting 2 from both sides of the equation,

⇒ x8+1x8−2x^8 + { 1\over x^8} - 2 = 1152

⇒ (x4−1x4)2(x^4 - \frac{1}{x^4})^2 = 1152

⇒ x4−1x4x^4 - \frac{1}{x^4}  = 24224\sqrt{2}

Hence the required answer is 24224\sqrt{2}.
