If x, y, z are three integers such that x + y = 8, y + z = 13 and z + x = 17, then the value of x2/yz is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 18/11

Application

Given:

x + y = 8 ...........i)

y + z = 13 ........ii)

z + x = 17 .......iii)

y = 8 - x (from eq i)

So,

8 - x + z = 13 (put the value of y)

z - x = 5 ........iv)

Adding eq iii) and eq iv):

⇒ 2z = 22

⇒ z = 11

So,

x = 6 and y = 2

Hence,

x2/yz = 36/22 = 18/11
