If x = 7 - 43\sqrt3 , then find the value of (x2+1x2)(x^2+{1\over x^2}).

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 194.

We know that,

(x + 1/x)2 = x2 + 1/x2 + 2

⇒ (x + 1/x)2 - 2 = x2 + 1/x2

So,

⇒ x = 7 - 43\sqrt3

⇒ 1/x = 1/(7 - 43\sqrt3 ) × (7 + 43\sqrt3 )/(7 + 43\sqrt3 )

⇒ 1/x = (7 + 43\sqrt3 )/(72 - (43\sqrt3 )2)

⇒ 1/x = (7 + 43\sqrt3 )/(49 - 48)

⇒ 1/x = (7 + 43\sqrt3 )

Now,

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 = (x + 1/x)2 - 2

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 = (7 - 43\sqrt3   +  7 + 43\sqrt3  )2 - 2

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 = (14)2 - 2

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 = 196 - 2

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 = 194
