If (x+1x)=7(x+{1\over x})=7, x > 0 The positive value of (x−1x)(x−{1\over x}) is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 353\sqrt5.

(x+1x)=7(x+{1\over x})=7

⇒ (x+1x)2=72=49(x+{1\over x})^2=7^2=49   [Squaring both sides]

⇒ (x−1x)2+(4×x×1x)=49(x-{1\over x})^2+\left( 4\times x\times \frac{1}{x}\right)=49

⇒ (x−1x)2+4=49(x-{1\over x})^2+4=49

⇒ (x−1x)2=49−4=45(x-{1\over x})^2=49-4=45

⇒ (x−1x)=45=35(x-{1\over x})=\sqrt{45}=3\sqrt5

Therefore, the required value is 3√5.
