If (x + 1x\frac{1}{x}) = 10, what is the value of (x4 + 1x4\frac{1}{x^4})?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 9602.

Given that

If (x + 1x\frac{1}{x}) = 10,

Squaring both sides

⇒ x2 + 1/x2 + 2 = 100

⇒ x2 + 1/x2  = 98

Again, Squaring both sides

⇒ x4 + 1/x4 + 2 = 9604

⇒ x4 + 1/x4  = 9602
