If (x−1x)=7.5(x -{1 \over x})=7.5, what is the value of (x2+1x2)?(x^2 +{1 \over x^2})?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2, i.e. 58.25.

(x−1x)=7.5(x -{1 \over x})=7.5

(a - b)2 = a2 + b2 - 2ab

According to the given question,

x−1x=7.5x - {1\over x} = 7.5

So, squaring both sides, we get

(x−1x)2=(7.5)2(x - {1\over x})^2 = (7.5)^2

⇒ x2+1x2−2=56.25x^2 + {1 \over x^2} - 2 = 56.25

⇒ x2+1x2=56.25+2x^2 + {1 \over x^2} = 56.25 + 2

⇒ x2+1x2=58.25x^2 + {1 \over x^2} = 58.25

Hence, the required value is 58.25.
