SSC CHSL 2023 PYQ — Question 65

SSC CHSL - 04 Aug 2023 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q65

If (w+1w)=6(w+\frac{1}{w})=6, then what will be the value of (w−1w)(w-\frac{1}{w})?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e 424\sqrt{2} .

(w−1w)2=(w+1w)2−4(w-\frac{1}{w})^2 = (w+\frac{1}{w})^2 - 4

On putting the given values

⇒ (w−1w)2=62−4(w-\frac{1}{w})^2 = 6^2 - 4

⇒ (w−1w)2=36−4(w-\frac{1}{w})^2 = 36 - 4

⇒ (w−1w)2=32(w-\frac{1}{w})^2 = 32

⇒ (w−1w)=42(w-\frac{1}{w}) = 4\sqrt2
