SSC CHSL 2019 PYQ — Question 78

SSC CHSL - 1st July 2019 - Shift 3 • Reasoning • Q78

If V = 44 and FIT = 70 then how will you code LIME?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 78

Understanding Application

The alphabet from A to Z takes numerical position values from 1 to 26.

Words are coded as the number which is 2 times the sum of numerical position values of all the alphabets of the word.

Given V = 44, FAT = 54

Numerical position values:

V: 22 → 22 x 2 = 44

F: 6, I: 9, T: 20

→ (6 + 9 + 20) x 2 = 70

Similarly,

L: 12, I: 9, M: 13, E: 5

LIME = (12 + 9 + 13 + 5) × 2 = 78
