SSC CHSL - 18th October 2020 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q63

If the value of  is same as that of √(x)√(y), then which of the following reactions between x and y is correct?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 9x – 4y = 24.

Understanding/Application

(3x√y + 2y√x)/(3x√y - 2y√x) - (3x√y - 2y√x)/(3x√y + 2y√x) = √x √y

[(3x√y + 2y√x)2 - (3x√y - 2y√x)2]/[(3x√y)2 - (2y√x)2] = √x √y

[9x2y + 4y2x + 12xy√x √y - (9x2y + 4y2x - 12xy √x √y)]/(9x2y - 4y2x) = √x √y

(24xy √x √y)/xy(9x - 4y) = √x √y
24/(9x - 4y) = 1

9x - 4y = 24
