If the total population of state B is 3000, then what is the number of girls below the poverty line in state B?

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 1200.

According to the question,

Total population of state B = 3000

Percentage of population below the poverty line in state B = 60%

Population below poverty one in state B = Total population of state B × Percentage of population below the poverty line in state B

⇒ 3000 × 60/100 = 1800

The proportion of boys and girls below the poverty line in state B = 2 : 4

So, 

The number of girls = 1800 × 4/(2 + 4)

⇒ 1800 × 4/6 = 1200

Therefore, the number of girls below the poverty line in state B is 1200
