Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 600

Given :

A number is first increased by 15% and then decreased by 15%

Number is 782

Now, the same number is first reduced by 25%, then increased by 25% and

again reduced by 20%

Calculations :

Let the number be N

N is increased by 15% = (115/100) × N = 23N/20

Now, N is decreased by 15% = (23N/20) × (85/100) = 1955N/2000

⇒ 391N/400 = 782

⇒ N = 800

Now, the new number is decreased by 25% = (75/100) × 800

⇒ 600

Now, increased by 25% = (125/100) × 600

⇒ 750

Now, number is reduced by 20% = (80/100) × 750

⇒ 600

Hence, the new number formed is 600.
