If the diameter of the base and curved surfaced area of a cylinder are 14 cm and 352 cm2, respectively, then the total surface area of the cylinder is equal to:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 660 cm2.

Given that, diameter of base = 14 cm

⇒ Radius = 14/2 = 7 cm

CSA of cylinder = 352 cm2

CSA of cylinder = 2πrh2 \pi r h

TSA of cylinder = 2πr(r+h)2 \pi r(r + h)

According to the given question,

⇒ 2πrh2 \pi r h = 352

⇒ 2×227×7×h2 \times {22 \over 7} \times 7 \times h = 352

⇒ h = 8 cm

TSA = 2×227×7(7+8)2 \times {22 \over 7} \times 7(7 + 8)

⇒ TSA = 2 × 22 × 15

⇒ TSA = 660

Hence the total surface area of the cylinder is 660 cm2.
