If the 5-digit number 457xy is divisible by 3, 7, and 11, then what is the value of (2x + 5y)?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 46.

LCM of 3, 7, 11 = 231

45700 ≤ 457xy ≤ 45799 divisible by 231

45700 ÷ 231 ≈ 197.83...

198 × 231 = 45738

199 × 231 = 45969 (Not possible)

Only possible number = 45738 where x = 3 and y = 8

Sum of digits: 4 + 5 + 7 + 3 + 8 = 27 (divisible by 3)

(2x + 5y) = 2(3) + 5(8) = 6 + 40 = 46
