If sin B = 151715\over 17, what is the value of cos B(sec B – tan B)? [Given that 0 < B < π2\pi \over2]

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 2172\over17.

sin B = 1517=PH{15\over 17} = {P \over H}

(8, 15, 17) are the Pythagorean triplets

⇒ cos B = BH=817 {B \over H}={8\over 17},  sec B = 178{17\over 8},  tan B = PB=158{P \over B}={15\over 8}

Now, the value of cos B(sec B – tan B)

⇒ 817×(178−158){8\over 17} \times({17\over8} - {15\over8})

⇒ 817×(28){8\over 17} \times({2\over8})

⇒ 2172\over17
