If r is the remainder when each of 4749, 5601 and 7092 is divided by the greatest possible number d (> 1), then the value of (d + r) will be:

Application

We need to find the greatest possible number ‘d’ first.

5601 – 4749 = 852

And

7092 – 5601 = 1491

HCF of 852 and 1491 is to be found.

 

852 = 2 × 2 × 213

And

1491 = 7 × 213

So,

HCF (d) = 213

Now,

Any of 3 numbers is divided by 213 to find reminder.

When 4749 is divided by 213:

Reminder (r) = 63

 

Hence,

r + d = 213 + 63 = 276
