7698x138y is divisible by 72 when it is divisible by 8 as well as 9.

By the divisibility rule of 8, we can clearly say that y is equal to 4. Since in the range, there is only one number that is divisible by 8, and that is 384.

The number becomes 7698x1384.

The sum of digits of 7698x1384 = 46 + x

In order to be divisible by 9 -

x = (54 - 46) = 8 (The nearest multiple of 9 to 46 is 54)

√(4x + y) = √[(4 × 8) + 4] =  √36 = 6
