SSC CGL - 10th June 2019 - Shift 1 • Reasoning • Q92

If HEAD is coded as 37 and BANK is coded as 57, then how will KITE be coded as?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 91

Understanding Application

The alphabets from A to Z takes numerical position value from 1 to 26.

Code for each word = (Sum of numerical position values of all alphabets) × 2 + 1

HEAD is coded as 37:

H (8) + E (5) + A (1) + D (4) = 18

18 × 2 + 1 = 37

And

BANK is coded as 57:

B (2) + A (1) + N (14) + K (11) = 28

28 × 2 + 1 = 57

Similarly, for KITE:

K (11) + I (9) + T (20) + E (5) = 45

45 × 2 + 1 = 91
