If ‘A’ stands for ‘subtraction’, ‘B’ stands for ‘multiplication’, ‘C’ stands for ‘addition’, and D stands for ‘division’, then what is the value of the following expression?

43 C 29 B 3 A 14 B (5 C 4) C 11 C (14 A 3) A 64 D 8 B 2

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e 10

Understanding

Given expression:

43 C 29 B 3 A 14 B (5 C 4) C 11 C (14 A 3) A 64 D 8 B 2

According to the question;

A is -; B is x; C is +; D is /

So by substituting these expressions in the given expression the expression becomes;

43 + 29 x 3 - 14 x (5 + 4) + 11 + (14 - 3) - 64 / 8 x 2.

Now follow the BODMAS rule.

= 43 + 29 x 3 - 14 x 9 + 11 + 11 - 8 x 2

= 43 + 87 - 126 + 11 + 11 - 16

= 130 - 126 + 22 - 16

= 130 - 104 - 16

= 26 - 16

= 10
