SSC GD Constable (English) - 2nd December 2021 Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q60

If (a + b) : (b + c) : (c + a) = 8 : 7 : 5 and a + b + c = 60, then the ratio of a : b : c is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 3 : 5 : 2.

Given:

(a + b) : (b + c) : (c + a) = 8 : 7 : 5

a + b + c = 60

Calculations:

Let the value of (a + b), (b + c) and (c + a) be 8x, 7x and 5x

⇒ (a + b) + (b + c) + (c + a) = 8x + 7x + 5x

⇒ 2(a + b + c) = 20x

⇒ (a + b + c) = 10x

According to the question,

⇒ 10x = 60

⇒ x = 6

Now we know,

(a + b) = 48, (b + c) = 42 and (c + a) = 30

a = 18, b = 30 and c = 12

Required ratio = a : b : c = 18 : 30 : 12 = 3 : 5 : 2
