Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 10 percent.

SP = CP × 100+P100{100 + P} \over 100

 SP = CP × 100−L100{100 - L} \over 100

Let the total number articles be 100x and CP of each article is Rs. 100.

Total CP = 100 × 100x

⇒ 10000x

Now, SP of 80% of articles = (80100×100x)×100+20100{({80 \over 100} \times 100x)} \times {{100 + 20}\over 100}

⇒ 80x×12010080x \times {120 \over 100}

⇒ 16x × 6 = 96x

SP of remaining 20% of articles = 20x×100−3010020x \times {{100 - 30} \over 100}

⇒ 14x

Total SP = (96x + 14x) × 100

⇒ 11000x

Profit = Total SP - total CP

⇒ 11000x - 10000x = 100x

Profit Percentage = 100010000×100{1000 \over 10000}\times 100

⇒ 10%

Hence the overall profit percxentage is 10 percent.
