SSC CGL Tier II Quant - 19/02/2018 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q80

If 3x + 4y – 11 = 18 and 8x – 6y + 12 = 6, then what is the value of 5x – 3y – 9?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. -9

3x + 4y = 29, 8x - 6y = -6

solving for x and y

x = 3, y = 5

5x - 3y - 9 = 5 × 3 - 3 × 5 - 9 = -9
