SSC CGL 2021 PYQ — Question 51

SSC CGL - 13 Aug 2021 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q51

If 2 cos2θ  = 3sin, 0º < θ < 90º, then the value of (sec2 θ - tan2 θ + cos2θ ) is :

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 74\frac{7}{4}

sec⁡2θ−tan⁡2θ=1\sec^2 \theta - \tan^2 \theta = 1

2cos2θ = 3sinθ

⇒ 2(1 – sin2θ) = 3sinθ  = 0

⇒ 2 – 2sin2θ = 3sinθ = 0

⇒ 2sin2θ + 3sinθ – 2 = 0

⇒ 2sin2θ + 4sinθ – sinθ – 2 = 0

⇒ 2sinθ(sinθ + 2) – (sinθ + 2) = 0

⇒ (sinθ + 2) (2sinθ – 1) = 0

⇒ (sinθ + 2) = 0 (2sinθ – 1) = 0

⇒ sinθ = - 2 and sinθ = 1/2

Putting the value of θ = 30°

According to the question

 (sec2θ - tan2θ + cos2θ)

⇒ 1 + cos2θ

⇒ 1 + 3/4

⇒ 7/4
