If 0.4x + 0.16y = 1.7 and 0.3x + 0.12y = 3.4, then which of the following is correct?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. The system has no solution.

We know that,

For two lines a1x + b1y = c1 and a2x + b2y = c2

Parallel = a1/a2 = b1/b2 ≠ c1/c2

Coincident = a1/a2 = b1/b2 = c1/c2

Intersecting = a1/a2 ≠ b1/b2

Now,

⇒ 0.4x + 0.16y = 1.7 and 0.3x + 0.12y = 3.4

Multiplying both equations by 100

⇒ 40x + 16y = 170 and,

⇒ 30x + 12y = 340

Now,

Taking coefficient

⇒ 40/30 = 16/12 ≠ 170/340

⇒ 4/3 = 4/3 ≠ 1/2 [satisfied]

Thus,

The system has no solution.
