SSC CGL - 4th June 2019 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q64

How much iron sheet (in m2) will be needed to construct a rectangular tank measuring 10 m × 8 m × 6 m, if a circular opening of radius one metre is to be left at the top of the tank? (correct to one decimal place)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

Correct Answer is option 3 i.e. 372.9

Concept

Understanding

Application

Surface area of rectangular tank = 2(lb + bh + hl)

The required area of iron sheets
= Total surface area of the tank – Area of the circular hole

Radius of circular hole = 1 m

The required area of iron sheets = 2(10 x 8 + 8 x 6 + 10 x 6) – πr2

= 2(80 + 48 + 60) – 3.14 × 1

= 2 x 188 – 3.14
= 376 – 3.14
= 372.9 cm2
