SSC CGL 2022 PYQ — Question 60

SSC CGL - 12 April 2022 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q60

How many small solid spheres each of 5 mm radius can be made out of a metallic solid cone whose base has radius 21 cm and height 30cm?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 26460

Volume of cone = (1/3) × (22/7) × r2 × h

Here, r = 21cm and h = 30 cm

Volume of cone = (1/3) × (22/7) × 212 × 30 cm3

The volume of a sphere = (4/3) × (22/7) × r3

Here, r = 5 mm = 0.5 cm

The volume of a sphere =  (4/3) × (22/7) × (0.5)3 cm3

Number of spheres that can be made = Volume of cone/volume of a sphere

⇒ {(1/3) × (22/7) × 212 × 30}/{(4/3) × (22/7) × (0.5)3}

Thus, Number of spheres that can be made = 26460
