'Hawa Mahal’ built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh is situated in which of the following cities?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. Jaipur.

The 'Hawa Mahal', an iconic palace, built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, is situated in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Completed in 1799, the Hawa Mahal, literally meaning "Palace of Winds" or "Wind Palace," is one of Jaipur's most distinctive landmarks. Its unique five-story exterior, resembling a honeycomb or a massive facade, is adorned with 953 small windows called 'Jharokhas'. These intricately carved windows allowed the royal ladies, who observed strict purdah, to observe daily life and processions on the streets below without being seen themselves. The design also ensured a natural cooling effect throughout the palace due to the continuous flow of air through the numerous windows, hence its name. It's a remarkable example of Rajput architecture.
