Given below are four jumbled sentences. Select the option that gives their correct order.

A. These are generated by a violent undersea disturbance or ocean activity.

B. Once generated, they travel outward on the ocean surface in all directions.

C. A tsunami is made up of a series of very long waves.

D. Spreading thus, they look like ripples caused by throwing a rock in a pond.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. CABD.

  • Statement C is independent and introduces the theme of the paragraph "Tsunami "  hence, it will be the opening statement.
  • Statement A starts with a pronoun "These" that is being used for the noun "waves" that is in statement C hence, A will come after C.
  • "hey travel and they look like" make a sequence hence, B and D will come respectively.
  • Now we have the final arrangement i.e. CABD.

The chosen option is the same as the final arrangement hence, it will be correct.

Some common rules that help while solving the Para Jumbles:-

  1. Read the paragraph carefully and try to comprehend the idea or theme of the paragraph and eliminate the irrelevant options.
  2. Try to identify the opening (Independent statement) and closing statement (Concluding statement).
  3. Try to identify the mandatory pairs. Two sentences can be connected through various connectors.
  4. If a statement starts with Pronoun, find the noun for which the pronoun is used, both the statements containing noun and pronoun will form a pair respectively.
