Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e 50 years.

Let the present age of father be x.

15 years ago father's age → x – 15

10 years ago father's age → x – 10

According to question:

Gautam’s present age → 20 % (x – 15) = (x – 15) ÷ 5

Gaurav's (brother of Gautam) present age → 60% (x – 10) = (3x – 30) ÷ 5

[(x – 15) ÷ 5 ] + [(3x – 30) ÷ 5] = 31

x – 15 + 3x – 30 = 31 × 5

4x – 45 = 155

4x = 155 + 45

x = 200 ÷ 4 = 50

Hence, the correct answer is 50 years.
