SSC CGL - 19 April 2022 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q66

From the body of a solid cube of edge 7cm, a solid sphere is removed. The volume of the remaining solid was found to be 163.333cm3. What is the diameter (in cm) of the sphere? (Take π =22/7)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 7

Edge of cube = 7 cm

The volume of cube = edge3 = 73 = 343 cm3

Volume of sphere = Volume of cube - Volume of remaining solid = 343 - 163.333 = 179.667

Volume of sphere = 4πr3/3

179.667 = 88r3/21

3773.007/88 = r3

r3 = 42.875

r = 3.5

Diameter of sphere = 2r = 2(3.5) = 7 cm
