Find the value of x in given equation: 3+x+3−x3+x−3−x=2\frac{\sqrt{3+x} + \sqrt{3-x}}{\sqrt{3+x} - \sqrt{3-x}}=2

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 125\frac{12}{5}.

3+x+3−x3+x−3−x=2\frac{\sqrt{3+x} + \sqrt{3-x}}{\sqrt{3+x} - \sqrt{3-x}} = 2

Let a=3+xa = \sqrt{3+x} , and b=3−xb = \sqrt{3-x}

a+ba−b=2\frac{a + b}{a - b} = 2

⇒ a + b = 2(a - b) = 2a - 2b

⇒ a = 3b

Substitute back: 3+x=33−x\sqrt{3+x} = 3\sqrt{3-x}

⇒ (3+x)2=(33−x)2(\sqrt{3+x})^2 = \left(3\sqrt{3-x}\right)^2

⇒ 3 + x = 9(3 - x) = 27 - 9x

⇒ 10x = 24

⇒ x = 24/10 = 12/5
