The savings and expenditure of a family in a month on different heads is shown in the given pie chart. The family saves ₹8,000 per month.

Find the ratio of the expenditure on food to that on savings.

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 2 : 1.

⇒ Savings amountTotal income=Savings angle360\frac{\text{Savings amount}}{\text{Total income}} = \frac{\text{Savings angle}}{360}

⇒ 8000Totalincome\frac{8000}{Total income} = 60360\frac{60}{360}

⇒ Total income = 8000 × 360/60 ​= 8000 × 6 = 48,000

the expenditure on food = Food expenditureTotal income=120360\frac{\text{Food expenditure}}{\text{Total income}} = \frac{120}{360}

⇒ Food expenditure = 48,000 × 120360\frac{120}{360}​ = 48,000 × 13\frac{1}{3}​=16,000

Ratio = Food expenditure/Savings ​= 16,000/8,000 ​ = 2 : 1
