Father's age 3 years ago from present was 5 times of the age of his son 6 years ago from present. Son's age after 7 years from present is 20 years. What is the ratio of present ages of father and son?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

Let:

Father's current age = F

Son's current age = S

3 years ago, the father's age = 5 × (Son's age 6 years ago)

F − 3 = 5(S − 6)

F − 3 = 5S − 30

F = 5S − 27 ... (1)

7 years from now, the son's age = 20

S + 7 = 20

S = 13

Now, substituting S = 13 into equation (1):

F = 5(13) − 27 = 65 − 27 = 38

Ratio:

F : S = 38 : 13

Correct Answer: B) 38 : 13
