Father’s age 12 years ago from present was 2 times of the age of his son 3 years ago from present. Son’s age after 12 years from present is 28 years. What is present age of father?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

Let:

Father's current age = F

Son's current age = S

12 years ago, the father's age = 2 × (Son's age 3 years ago)

F − 12 = 2(S − 3)

F − 12 = 2S − 6

F = 2S + 6 ... (1)

12 years from now, the son's age = 28

S + 12 = 28

S = 16

Substituting S = 16:

F = 2(16) + 6 = 32 + 6 = 38

Correct Answer = (A) 38 years
