Father's age 10 years ago from present was 2 times of the age of his son 8 years ago from present. Son's age after 3 years from present is 32 years. What is the sum of present ages of father and son?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

Let:

Father's current age = F

Son's current age = S

10 years ago: Father's age = 2 × (Son's age 8 years ago)

F − 10 = 2(S − 8)

F − 10 = 2S − 16

F = 2S − 6 ... (1)

3 years from now: Son's age = 32

S + 3 = 32

S = 29

Substitute S = 29 into equation (1):

F = 2(29) − 6 = 58 − 6 = 52

Sum:

F + S = 52 + 29 = 81

Correct Answer: (A) 81 years
