Difference between the present ages of A and B is 2 years. 5 years ago from present, the ratio of ages of A and B is 4 : 3. What is the present age of B?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

Let 5 years ago the ages of A and B were 4x and 3x respectively.

current age

Present age of A = 4x + 5

Present age of B = 3x + 5

equations

According to the question, the difference of their present ages is 2 years:

(4x + 5) – (3x + 5) = 2

on solving equations

4x + 5 – 3x – 5 = 2

x = 2

To find the present age of B: B's present age = 3x + 5

B = 3(2) + 5

B = 6 + 5

B = 11 years

Answer: Present age of B is 11 years.
