By selling an article for ₹7281, a man loses 10%. At what price (in ₹) should he sell it in order to make a profit of 10%?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 8899

Let CP be Rs. x

Loss = 10% when SP = Rs. 7281

Loss% = CP−SPCP×100\dfrac{CP - SP}{CP} × 100

10 = x−7281x×100\dfrac{x - 7281}{x} × 100

10x = 100x - 728100

⇒ 90x = 728100

⇒ x = 8090

So CP = Rs. 8090

Now when gain = 10%

Gain% = SP−CPCP×100\dfrac{SP - CP}{CP} × 100

10 = SP−80908090×100\dfrac{SP - 8090}{8090} × 100

8090 = 10SP - 80900

⇒ 10SP = 88990

⇒ SP = 8899

So he should sell an article for Rs. 8899 to make a profit of 10%.
