By selling 3 dozen oranges for Rs. 405, a trader loses 25%. How many oranges should he sell for Rs. 288 if he needs to earn a profit of 20% in the transaction?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 16.

The selling price of 36 oranges = 405

So, the cost price of the 36 oranges = 405 × 100/75 = 540

For 20% profit, the selling price of 36 oranges = 540 × (120/100) = 648

So, the total number of oranges sell in Rs 288 = (36/648) × 288 =  16
