Arvind goes to his school by cycle at a speed of 4 km/h and reaches his school 15 minutes late. If he moves at a speed of 4121\over2 km/h, he reaches the school 10 minutes early. What is the distance (in km) from his school to his home?

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 15.

Let distance = x km

Time at 4 km/h = x4 \frac{x}{4}

Time at 4.5 km/h = x4.5\frac{x}{4.5}

Time difference = 15 + 10 = 25 minutes = 2560\frac{25}{60} = 512\frac{5}{12} hours

⇒ x4−x4.5=512\frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{4.5} = \frac{5}{12}

⇒ 9x−8x36=512\frac{9x - 8x}{36} = \frac{5}{12}

⇒ x36=512\frac{x}{36} = \frac{5}{12}

⇒ x = 15
