Arun got 20 percent less marks than Varun. Raju got 30 percent less marks than Varun. If Raju got 140 marks, then what are the marks of Arun?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 160.

Let the marks got by Varun be 100x.

Marks got bt Arun = 20% less than Varun

⇒ 100x×80100100x \times {80 \over 100} = 80x

Marks got by Raju = 30% less than Varun 

⇒ 100x×70100100x \times {70 \over 100} = 70x

Given that, marks got by Raju = 140

⇒ 70x = 140

⇒ x = 20

Marks got by Arun = 80x

⇒ 80 × 20 = 160

Hence the marks got by Arun is 160.
