Anand covers a certain distance in the first lag of 5 hours at the speed of 50 km/h. In the second lag, he increased the speed by 20% due to which he covered 20% more distance than that of the first lag. He covered the third lag at the average speed of the first two lags and covered 10% extra distance than that of the second lag distance. How much total time (in hours) did he take to complete all three lags?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: A
Explanation
The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 16.
Distance = Speed × Time
Given that
Anand covers a certain distance in the first lag of 5 hours at the speed of 50 km/h
Distance covered by him in the first lag = 50 × 5 = 250 km
In Second lag, His speed = 50 + 50 × 0.2 = 50 + 10 = 60 km/h
Distance covered by him in second lag = 250 + 250 × 0.2 = 250 + 50 = 300 km
In third lag, His speed = = 110/2 = 55 km/h
Distance covered by him = 300 + 300 × 0.1 = 300 + 30 = 330 km
Now, the time taken to cover second = = 5 hours
The time taken to cover third lap = = = 6 hours
Hence, The total time taken by him to complete the three lags = 5 + 5 + 6 = 16 hours
