SSC CPO 2024 PYQ — Question 127

SSC CPO - 29 June 2024 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q127

Akash and Vikash can complete a work in 40 days and 60 days, respectively. In how many days will the entire work be completed if they work on alternate days, starting with Akash?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 48.

Given that, time taken by Akash to complete the work = 40 days

Time taken by Vikash to complete the work = 60 days

Total work = Efficiency × Time taken

Let the total work to be done LCM(40, 60) be 120 units.

Efficiency of Akash = 12040120 \over 40 = 3 units/day

Efficiency of Vikash = 12060120 \over 60 = 2 units/day

According to the given question, they work on alternate days,

Work completed by Akash + Vikash in 2 days (3 + 2) = 5 units

Work completed by them in (2 × 24) 48 days = (5 × 24) 120 units

Hence the time taken for the entire work be completed if they work on alternate days, starting with Akash is 48 days.
