∆ABC is inscribed in a circle with centre O. If AB = 35 cm, BC = 12 cm, and AC = 37 cm, then what is the circumradius of a triangle?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e.18.5 cm.

Area of the triangle = s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)\sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}

where s = (a+b+c)2(a+b+c)\over2

s = 35+12+37235+12+37\over2 = 84/2 = 42

Area = 42(42−35)(42−12)(42−37)\sqrt{42(42-35)(42-12)(42-37)}

42×7×30×5\sqrt{42\times7\times30\times5} = 210 cm2

Circumradius(R) = abc4×area{abc}\over4\times area

R = 35×12×374×210{35×12×37}\over4×210

R = 372{37}\over2 = 18.5 cm
