SSC CHSL 2024 PYQ — Question 51

SSC CHSL - 10 July 2024 - Shift 4 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q51

∆ABC and ∆PQR are similar. The areas of these two triangles are 289 sq.cm and 576 sq.cm, respectively. If PR = 12 cm, then AC = ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 8.5 cm.

When ∆ABC and ∆PQR are similar, then

(AreaofABCAreaofPQR)=(ABPQ)2=(BCQR)2=(ACPR)2({Area of ABC \over Area of PQR})= ({AB \over PQ})^2 = ({BC \over QR})^2 = ({AC \over PR})^2

According to the given question,

Let the size of AC be x cm.

(AC/PR)2 = 289/576

⇒ x/12 = 17/24

⇒ x = 8.5 cm
