A works 5.4 times as fast as B, and A takes 22 days less than B to complete the job when each works alone. Calculate the number of days taken to complete the same job if A and B work together.

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 4732\frac{7}{32}.

Ratio of the efficiency of A and B = A : B = 5.4 : 1 = 27 : 5

Ratio of the time taken by A and B = A : B = 5x : 27x

⇒ 27x - 5x = 22 days

⇒ x = 1 day

Time taken by A and B to finish the job = 27×527+5\frac{27\times5}{27+5}= 135/32 

⇒ 4732\frac{7}{32}
