SSC CHSL - 5 Aug 2021 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q65

A train travels at a speed of 66 km/h and halts at five junctions for a certain time. It covers a distance of 1485 km/h in one day. For how long (in minutes) does the train stop at each junctions,  if it halts for the same period of time at all the junctions?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 18.

Given:

Distance = 1485 km

Speed = 66 km/hr

Formula USed:

Distance = Speed × time

Explanation:

According to the given question,

Time taken by the train if there were no halts = 1485661485 \over 66 = 22.5 hours

But it takes 24 hours to complete the journey

So, time taken in 5 halts = 24 - 22.5 = 1.5 hours

Time taken in 1 halt = 1.5/5 = 0.3 hours = 0.3 × 60 = 18 minutes.

Hence the required answer is 18.
