A train crosses a 400 m-long platform in 50 seconds. It crosses another 600 m-long platform in 60 seconds. What are the length and the speed of the train?

Explanation:

Let the length of the train be x m.

According to the given question,

(x+400)50=(x+600)60{(x + 400) \over 50} = {(x + 600) \over 60}

⇒ 6x + 2400 = 5x + 3000

⇒ x = 600

Now, speed of train = (600+400)50=100050{(600 + 400) \over 50} = {1000 \over 50} = 20m/sec = 20×18520 \times {18 \over 5} = 72 km/hr.

Hence the required answer is 72 km/hr.
