Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 2475 metres.

Relative speed = 11−9 = 2 km/h

Time to catch = 550 m2 km/h\frac{550\, \text{m}}{2\, \text{km/h}}

Convert 2 km/h to m/s:

2 km/h=20003600=59 m/s2\, \text{km/h} = \frac{2000}{3600} = \frac{5}{9}\,\text{m/s}

Time = 5505/9=550×95=990\frac{550}{5/9} = 550 \times \frac{9}{5} = 990 seconds = 990/3600 ≈ 0.275hours

Distance run by thief = 9km/h × 0.275 = 2.475 km = 2475 metres
